Watch Your Fingers - Facebook

Facebook. What’s firstly pop up on your thought when you heard it? You might find a lot of friends there as it is fun to interact with on your social media. Facebook has become one of the most social networking site that has a high frequency of use, lately and has become part of people’s live that you can learn about just by ‘click and click’ their pages. You will see their life story, their friends, relationship status, what they like and what they dislike, or even their privacy such as address and phone number if they include it up on their Facebook’s page. With this application social networking site that Mark Zuckerberg has made which is Facebook itself, the user find a great way to keep in touch with their close friend and family. Through their photos and status update they could still connected and stay up to date on the happenings of their close people. Also, the user can easily make a friend as Facebook allow the user to add someone new as a friend on a crazy amount like thousands. And, one more thing that the user can do there, they expressing their selves by the status update or posting a photos and attract friend’s attention to give their like and comment. Facebook offer to communicate freely indeed. However, what you type can lead you to a law problem if you did not watch your fingers while typing your thought on Facebook.

Indonesia has enacted a law that regulated the people in using a social media called Bills of Acts on Electronic Information and Transaction. This law require the people should not distribute or make people can access an electronic information that contain an insults and utterances of hatred which can make people insecure and hurt or hoax. With this law, Facebook’s user have to more aware of what they share and what they say while doing an interaction on Facebook.

According to a data on one of the most trusted official media source in Indonesia, I found some case of people who are jailed because of their comments and the content that they shared on their Facebook account. A Facebook account Syukur Muhammad Syarief went viral lately and being investigated because of his status update that contain an utterances of hatred to president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. In addition, there was a case that made Ervani Emi Handayani’s Facebook account owner has accused for 5 months in jail with 10 months probationary period. She was found guilty of distributing an information on electronic device that contain of insult and defamation, accordant to Bills of Acts on Electronic Information and Transaction which is on article 27, 2018.

Based on these case, first, the Facebook users need to be aware on sharing such a content that may contain a hoax and negative speech to avoid a thing that we don’t want to experience. Second, the most important thing that the users need to do is watch their finger while typing before click the post button. If there’s Indonesian say ‘Mulutmu adalah harimaumu’ which means the words that you say could leads you into trouble, in social networking site like Facebook I could say ‘Jarimu adalah harimaumu’ which means your fingers could lead you into a trouble as you share your thought by typing through Facebook. Third, we also be able to learn that it can be a self-reflection to respect people. Fourth, instead of spread hatred on your Facebook’s timeline and make the other users feel not comfortable, it would be more necessary to the users to spread love, peace and it is possible to develop a business by using Facebook as a promotional media. As we know that in this 2019 era, people mostly spend a lot of their time in social media to share their experience and to find something that they need. May you have a good experience on your social media and keep spreading love.
